中西康二
プロフィール

1936年　長野県上田市生まれ

父、兄が画家だった環境も影響して
子供時代から絵筆や彫刻に親しんだ。
中学卒業後、木工を習い始める。

中央大学経済学部卒業、
東京でサラリーマン生活を送った後、
昭和51年、父の実家である
中山道奈良井宿で手作りの店を開く。

からくり玩具をはじめ、土人形、土鈴、木版、
切り絵の葉書などオリジナル作品を制作し販売。
土鈴は二回、年賀切手の図案に採用された
（ねずみ年－2008年、巳年－2013年）。

2014年12月逝去。

NAKANISHI, Koji (Fujiya shop in Narai-juku)

Specialized in paper-cut art,
wood-block printing, stencil

Born in Ueda, Nagano, Japan. 1936 - 2014

His father and the older brother were painters.
As a child growing up in the family,
he familiarized himself with paint brushes
and sculptures.

After finishing the junior high school,
he started learning wood crafting.

He graduated from
Department of Economics in Chuo University,
and was employed in Tokyo.

In 1976, he came back to Narai-juku,
where his father was originally from,
to open a hand craft shop.

He created various toys and art,
including wooden mechanical toys, clay dolls,
clay bells, and paper-cut art postcards.

Two of the clay bell designs
were selected to represent
the Chinese Zodiac Sign postage stamp
on the national New Year postcards
(Rat in 2008 and Snake in 2013).
